About the Event
The club aims to deliver informative sessions in an relaxed, fun environment for individuals between the ages of 8 – 16 who can work independently at a 1:12 ratio, are reliable, can follow instructions and understand the importance of health and safety in and around the farm (particularly around the animals and using farm equipment or tools); all whilst improving their knowledge on farming, confidence and social skills. We are equipped with a fully working farm and professional members of staff with years of experience in farming and outdoor education - below I have put together a brief overview of a session.
The young farmers will be in a group of 12 and led by one member of staff along with additional team leader volunteers. If you are interested in signing up to the morning slot (9:00am – 12:00pm), the young farmers will start their day at 9am by feeding the animals. After a short break, they will then head off in separate groups run by team leaders and conduct various farm duties such as mucking out, health checking, grooming, exercising and many more. Within these sessions, young farmers will have the opportunity to complete tasks set within their learning journals. There are three learning journals overall (bronze, silver and gold). Once a young farmer has completed one level, they will move up to another and eventually aim to become a team leader where they will be given a team leader t-shirt (at no extra cost!), we believe this is a great incentive to keep going.
These sessionscost £7.50 and this covers the cost of a member of Lambourne End staff on the day, administration staff to deal with your bookings, all resources, three learning journals, certification and badges when progressing. We ask that this payment is made in 12 week bulk advancements (a total of £90) so we can ensure spaces are filled. Payment must be made over the phone and we regret that we are unable to make refunds if the young farmer doesn’t attend as we must cover the cost of our staff members.
We also have the opportunity once a year to take the young farmers on a camping trip to a show where they will have the opportunity to display their skills to all city farms over London and compete for rosettes. (This would be at a small additional cost).
